Day Eight — Ireland

Today was a light day of working on the projects followed by an afternoon on the golf course. The first hole teed off with a castle in the tree line and the ocean behind it. The weather was perfect and the guys a lot of laughs. My score was a bit off, due to me being distracted from the incredible and beautiful surroundings — I know, poor excuse.

This evening we had a project party closing off the construction and film. There were many sad faces saying goodbye to each new friend. A live band played American and Irish tunes. An award winning dancer presented several Irish dances. All was cupeled with jokes, singing and the handing out of gifts.

This is my last entry from Ireland and I noticed that the later at night I wrote, the less detail I shared. Maybe I’ll write a highlights article down the road, when I’m a little more awake. Or, I’ll cut together a highlight video so you can see some of what I’ve shared. But for now, I’m signing out from Ireland.

Day Seven — Ireland

The workload today was slowed due to a lack of materials, so I took time to see the Book of Kells across the street at Trinity college. The pages were incredibly well written and the coloring amazing. It was written in circa 800, or earlier, by Celtic Monks and it includes the four Gospels.

Some took time to venture into the crypt at the church, which about 250 years ago would be the recipient of dead bodies being thrown over the gates during the plague. The bodies were then buried by the church in it’s yard and the crypt. It took two of us to open it.

This afternoon I met actress Jenny Belles, who was able to speak in a dozen different dialects. She’s been on television and stage. Our conversation led to us discussing the possibility of her being the on screen talent of the European version of my Internet family entertainment magazine currently in development.

Tonight, the local police caught the thief who stole my friend Patrick’s backpack and computer. We learned of the great news after our team watched my daughter perform Irish dancing on stage at the Arlington Hotel. Carolyn had been selected by the manager to join the dancers on stage and she did a great job.

Day Six — Ireland

I just got back from a great afternoon with the O’Connell family. Carolyn and I spent a wonderful time with Diarmuid and his lovely wife Orla. Their kids Sarah, Rebecca and Diarmuid had a wonderful visit with us as well. The girls played the piano and Orla made a wonderful meal for us to share — Not to mention sending us off with a homemade cinnamon bread loaf.

While everything was being prepared, Diarmuid and I chatted about business and the directions his kids are headed in life. He is a loving father who cares deeply for his kids. Not only does he know his kids’ strengths, but he takes time to help them work through their weaknesses.

We all met up after the Sunday morning service, which was filled with laughter and inspiration thanks to Michael McNamee, Wanda Burgund and Dan Murphy. Michael, with 127 mission trips under his belt, came in from Brussels to join our team. Wanda was our leader and Dan was one of our key contractors.

The theme of the talks were all about the preparation of the coming revival. Those sitting around me were all eager to participate in any activity that would lead to that outcome. Everyone’s heart was geared toward finding a way to encourage those in need.

We did have an unfortunate experience tonight, while putting in extra work at our building site. One of our teenagers had his backpack stolen by a homeless man who slipped in and out without being detected, with the exception of him leaving behind his backpack and sleeping bag in it’s place. The police are investigating.
